Small FM (Formally Magic FM Network) has been operating in Napier as an LPFM (Low Power FM) Radio Station, and for the last 29 years and has been listed as the first and longest running LPFM Radio Station in New Zealand.
Back in 1995 we bought parts from the UK and built this Radio Station as a hobby, local and non profit, and playing commercial free music from the 30’s to the 90’s.
Our Transmitters are located on 106.7 FM in Taradale – 88.1 FM in Onekawa, but however we are limited on output power to only 1watt (1000mW) ERP (per transmitter) so we’re very small but with a big heart for local and NZ Music.
You see us too “like the big Radio Stations” have to pay for song royalties to APRA and PPNZ and like others keep the upmost standards which support the codes of good broadcasting which is laid down by the BSA (The Broadcasting Standards Authority), and of cause power to keep us on air, this is funded by me as a hobby.
